It’s Exciting to Pay Attention

2021-07-23 (3).png

I was playing ping pong with my mom this morning, and found myself struck by how exciting it was, now that I'm paying attention.

I used to live in extremes — actually, it's probably extreme right now to say I "used to". Truthier to say that I'm learning balance, and tend toward extremes and black & white thinking.

But I digress.

A ping pong ball, on its own, is a boring piece of plastic. A ping pong ball I'm interacting with, on the other hand — impassioned, directed, focused — is an exciting manifestation of effort which makes the players whoop out loud with consternation and delight.

I think these passionate, deeply engaged feelings can be found in anything we focus on whole heartedly, and in earnest.

That includes our relationships with everything, including ourselves.
