Freedom From Old Stories
How you describe yourself, your life, and your past is an important tool for connection, both to yourself and others.
EXERCISE:
Tell a friend your life story in 10 minutes, and ask them to reflect it back to you — see what stands out, and notice how it makes you feel. Does the story you’ve conveyed reflect who you feel you are?
Maybe you hear a current emphasis that you don’t want to be experiencing — maybe you need to change a focus in your life, or shift where you’re giving your energy.
Maybe you hear a past emphasis that you no longer wish to define you — maybe it’s time to reframe old stories and take ownership for the direction you’ve taken.
Maybe you hear reflections of other people’s expectations for you — maybe that’s cool with you, and maybe it isn’t. It’s up to you to decide what makes you happy and do something about it.
Maybe what you hear just doesn’t sound like you anymore — maybe you realize you’ve grown, and it’s time to tell a new story.
Whatever the case, these are good things to notice — you could do this exercise a hundred times and it would still yield useful data when it comes to self-discovery and taking ownership of your life, shadow elements, and spirit.
